GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, was recently again awarded the Gold Innovation Award for Asphalt Roofing Shingles from Home Builder Executive for its advancements in the category over the past year.
GAF was acknowledged for innovative new shingle lines, including the new diamond-shaped Sienna™ Lifetime Designer Shingles, as well as for Monaco Lifetime Designer Shingles, which are the only asphalt shingles to have the appearance of clay tile. The company was also commended for being the first to introduce a Lifetime limited warranty on all laminated shingles, as well as for leading the industry by offering a Lifetime limited warranty on complete roofing systems.
Home Builder Executive Innovation Award honorees include manufacturers that have brought unique products, features, and/or builder programs to market during the past year. Editors review company websites, press releases, and promotional materials along with articles and interviews published over the past year to determine award winners.
“We are so pleased to have been honored with another Innovation Award for our Lifetime Designer Shingles,” stated Ted Marcopolus, vice president of marketing services at GAF. “We are constantly striving to create innovative concepts that will satisfy the needs of our customers—and it’s great to be recognized for that focus.”
All of GAF’s Lifetime Shingles incorporate GAF’s proprietary Advanced Protection Technology, which results in shingles that offer improved performance—including superior durability and wind resistance—while reducing the use of precious natural resources. The use of GAF’s Dura Grip™ Adhesive means that each shingle is sealed tightly and there is a reduced risk of shingle blow-off. As with all GAF Lifetime Shingles, they pass ASTM’s two toughest wind tests, ASTM D3161 Class F 110 mph and ASTM D7158 Class H 150 mph, and carry GAF’s Lifetime limited warranty.
Founded in 1886, GAF has become the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. The company’s products include a comprehensive portfolio of steep-slope and commercial roofing systems, which are supported by an extensive national network of factory-certified contractors. Its success is driven by its commitment to Advanced Quality, Industry Expertise, and Solutions Made Simple for contractors, specifiers, and property owners alike. In 2011, GAF was the first roofing manufacturer to offer a Lifetime limited warranty on all of its laminated shingles and, in 2012, it introduced the GAF Lifetime Roofing System.
With a focus on social responsibility, GAF has developed Advanced Protection Shingle Technology, which provides superior durability and wind resistance while reducing the use of scarce natural resources. The company has also developed single-ply and asphaltic membranes with superior durability and high reflectivity to meet the most rigorous industry standards while helping commercial property owners and designers reduce energy consumption.
GAF also supports the roofing industry through CARE, the Center for the Advancement of Roofing Excellence, which has provided education to over 125,000 professionals. CARE’s mission is to help professional contractors and distributors build their businesses through sales and management education, and to provide product and installation training to contractors, distributors, architects, property owners, and related industry personnel.

FEURA BUSH, N.Y., Oct. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ – Owens Corning (NYSE: OC), the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Constellation today celebrated the completion of a 2.7-megawatt (DC) solar generation project at Owens Corning’s thermal and acoustical insulation plant.
The solar installation, which is the largest project to date under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY-Sun initiative, is designed to supply approximately 6 percent of the plant’s annual electricity needs. Constellation financed, built, owns and maintains the solar power system. Electricity generated by the system is purchased by Owens Corning under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation.
Frank O’Brien-Bernini, vice president and chief sustainability officer for Owens Corning, said, “Owens Corning is committed to helping solve the world’s most pressing energy and climate challenges, and we are constantly seeking solutions that will materially contribute. This solar project represents our continuing efforts to implement programs that advance our 2020 Environmental Footprint Goals, and we are proud to be part of a project that helps protect New York State’s environment.”
John B. Rhodes, president and CEO for NYSERDA, said, “Nearly two years after Governor Cuomo first announced the NY-Sun initiative, the Owens Corning large-scale solar project is a great example of how public-private partnerships are changing the landscape of New York’s clean-energy economy. We applaud Owens Corning and Constellation on this NY-Sun milestone achievement. This project is a testament not only to the state’s investment in expanding its renewable energy portfolio, but also to its commitment in providing cleaner, more affordable energy for New Yorkers.”
New York State Senator Neil D. Breslin said, “Clean, renewable energy is good for the environment and good for New York businesses. I congratulate Owens Corning, NYSERDA and Constellation on the completion of this project. Through the NY-Sun initiative we will continue to create clean energy jobs and a more sustainable future for our state.”
Gary Fromer, senior vice president, energy management programs for Constellation, said, “Solar as a power-generation source is an attractive option for large-scale manufacturers like Owens Corning to achieve environmental goals and manage electricity costs. We applaud Owens Corning for being at the forefront of solar development in New York and Governor Cuomo’s NY-Sun Competitive Photovoltaic Program for creating the public-private initiatives that help make projects like this possible.”
National Grid, the utility serving the Feura Bush plant, previously awarded Owens Corning nearly $1 million in energy efficiency grants to help reduce its energy usage and carbon footprint.
“National Grid is committed to supporting our customers’ renewable energy goals,” said Ken Daly, National Grid president, New York. “The Owens Corning project required a high level of collaboration between National Grid and Constellation. National Grid is delighted to provide highly reliable electric service to Owens Corning, and we congratulate them for their environmental stewardship.”
The solar power system is composed of approximately 9,000 ground-mounted, photovoltaic panels located on more than nine acres. The system is expected to generate approximately 3.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year (based on first year production). Generating the same amount of electricity using nonrenewable sources would result in the release of approximately 2,339 metric tons of carbon dioxide, or the equivalent emissions from 487 passenger vehicles annually, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency data for the region.
Constellation owns and operates more than 147 megawatts of solar installations that have been completed or are under construction for commercial and government customers throughout the United States. By structuring its solar projects as power purchase agreements or solar services agreements, Constellation offers solar installations that may require no upfront capital from customers and may provide fixed power costs that are less than projected market rates.
Constellation commercial customers, universities, school systems, hospitals and government agencies interested in on-site solar installations of 1 megawatt or larger may contact Constellation at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1-877-427-2005.

The two newly developed models – the “ETI-40MB and 50MB” – offer cooling capacities ranging from 350 to 500 refrigeration tons*1 (RT). They will be launched into the Japanese domestic market this fall as new additions to the company’s “ETI Series” of compact centrifugal chillers with built-in inverters.
Tokyo, August 1, 2013 – Effective October 1, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will launch Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Corporation by integrating two of its group companies in Japan that currently handle sales, installation and after-sale servicing of air-conditioning and refrigeration (AC&R) system products. By consolidating the two companies’ respective strengths as a way of exploring new markets, MHI aims to establish a business structure that will provide enhanced support to its AC&R business.
